New Zealand tops the chart in the Peace index.
The ranking is contained in the 2010 Global Peace Index, which examines crime rates, defence spending and respect for human rights.
New Zealand has taken out the top ranking for the second year in a row, while Australia has maintained its position at 19th in the Institute of Economics and Peace compiled index. The index's founder, Steve Killelea, says the rating took into account New Zealand's race relations, low defence spending and diplomacy. "It [has] non-engagement in military conflicts and also it's got very good relationships with its neighbouring states," he said.
